Day 5: In case you didn't know . . .

Photobucket

Chickens scare the bejeezus out of me.

Not a good time to be poultryphobic in SL.

Everyone's talking about their sionChickens. I guess I would like to raise them just to throw them at people.

Besides run screaming away from chickens, I think the only other things I did today were to rape and pillage the Novocaine hair sale (OK, that sounded wrong), flip a lucky board for someone, and pack up my purple house and Jon's duck. Woo hoo! You have goosebumps from all the excitement! I know it!

I think that's about all I have to say. This blogger challenge is kicking my tush. When it's over, I don't think I want to look at this blog again for a long time.

I'm off to buy some Excedrin for this splitting, splitting headache I currently have.

Ciao.

Day 4 ½: I had a perfect day (Warning: partial noodity ahead!)

Photobucket
(Pictured: Necklace, Pendant and Earrings in Ode in Water and Sky, by Random Calliope)

I got a gift tonight that literally made me put my hand over my REAL-LIVE mouth and gape at my computer in AWED DISBELIEF.

I couldn't find an outfit to do it justice, so I ran outside in, well, a piece of tape and prayed to God that my neighbors weren't home.

Thank you, Random Calliope!

YES, (all you other) men of the world! Jewelry makes us take off our clothes! Maybe if I just say it out loud, I'll stop getting things like TOOL KITS for Valentine's Day.

Photobucket

When I logged in and saw "Emerald's Box of Awesome" waiting for me, I was torn between clapping and getting all teary, so I did both.

I've never gotten a box of awesome before. I've never even gotten a bag of awesome. I wish I could make an appropriately awesome thank-you gift. (Hand-painted square prim? :\)

All I really have to give people are my words, and I'm kind of at a loss for those right now. The only one that comes to mind is . . .

YAY!

*jumps up and down . . . but, um, not too vigorously*

And yes, I finally figured out how to use my Windlight settings and as you can probably tell by now, I'm quite taken with the Sailor's Delight sky. But actually, this set looks spectacular at midnight:

Photobucket
(Bracelet in Ode in Water in Sky. Ring in Ode in Twilight. Don't look at my underwear!)

The pose is called La Prude from the Inspirations set at Pffiou! (ha ha!).

The Sloane hair is the 10L Vendor Support Month gift from Philotic Energy. And you'll find the duct tape bra in the $1L Homeless set at Abnormal Ms. I knew it would come in handy some day!

*blows Random a huge kiss and runs in the house to put on a robe*

Day 4: Everybody Wang Chung tonight

Photobucket

I promise I'm not going to do this every day, but this (actually sort of distorted and weird-looking) picture didn't make it into yesterday's Virgin Mary post. If I keep blogging regularly, maybe I'll declare my Wednesdays to be Get Your Fashion On with The Virgin Mary Day!

(Yes, this challenge, albeit very cool, is wiping me out. I'm gonna need a blog vacation when it's over.)

The picture above shows the gorgeous Sagrado Corazon tattoo (also available in b/w) from Otaku Designs. I think it's a steal at 100L. There's also a beautiful Sacred Heart on the chest, unfortunately not shown. Try not to look at my freaky feet. I'm not sure what the hell is going on there.

Because of this tattoo, I actually stalked the lucky chair at Diesel Works just to win the Dyna Pose Set that was in it, mainly because that set has some nice "hey, look at my back" poses.

The good news for you is that the Dyna set, along with Diesel Works' Drama set, is now FREE at the new Fab Free Headquarters. I was amazed when I stopped by there this week -- soooo many generous designers, including Beauty Avatar and Exile, have stocked that place with really fantastic gifts. They certainly don't call it Fab Free for nothing.

Some other quick updates:

-- I went to check out the new "adult continent" Zindra to see what it was all about. The link I just gave you takes you to a Linden blog that details the various areas. I started at Kama City, but WOW, it was jam-packed with people who were apparently just standing around talking, most of them in open chat. I TPed in on an uncomfortable discussion about "age play," couldn't walk because of lag, quickly cammed around, didn't see much except for an impressive (and empty?) glass building, and took off.

Next I went over to the outer end of Cinyris Island -- touted as "a premier vacation spot!" -- but, um, it looked a lot like Tucson, Arizona, (insert stomach heaves here) to me (minus the murky looking ocean):

Photobucket

OH YEAH, BABY! I know you've been missing that Obscene cleavage! I haven't worn that skin in a while. LOL - the face looks mean. "Don't mess with the Queen of Zindra!"

My chest slider is only set to a modest 58, by the way. Who needs major slider action with that awesome Obscene shading? (Still patiently waiting for the grand opening of the new Obscene main store at the end of Crush Row -- unless it's been permanently postponed.)

That's about all I have to say about Zindra. Lots of deserted places for cleavage shots and a good place for some interesting eavesdropping. *Bows and accepts the Travel Writer of the Year award*

-- That Spring Daisy Dress in that photo might actually make the "keeper" cut as I continue to slice and dice my inventory. (I got it down from 87K to 82K today!) A Lucky Kitty Crew member spotted it in the Midnight Mania board at Abnormal Ms. and asked the group to help her lock it down. At the time, I just slapped the board to help a sister out, but when I got the dress this morning I actually REALLY liked it! It comes with two versions of that daisy necklace. The lockdown goal is 100 hits. So if you want it, get your 99 alts together and spank that board!

If you do end up smacking those daisies around, be sure to grab this made-me-laugh-and-then-made-me-feel-guilty-for-laughing Homeless outfit there for $1L, if a duct tape bra and a newspaper skirt are your thing:

Photobucket

Note that the bruised skin is not included. *barfs*

The shoes I'm wearing on my double-jointed ankles in that photo are some of my favorite shoes ever and worth every linden. They're texture-change gladiator sandals from Sakka's Studio, and I thank Beanie Canning and her awesome blog for alerting me to their majestic presence.

They're menu-driven with many color choices and there are no prim toes in these, which frankly is a good thing in my book. Seriously, if you're zooming in on my toes, go take your foot fetish somewhere else.

If you're on a budget and don't want to spend 360L for the multi-color option, individual colors are for sale at 120L each. I say go with beige (shown above) because it actually looks like a light shimmery gold, and metallics = neutral in the summertime, honey. You can never go wrong with strappy gold sandals. (Unless you're a guy.)

I'm tired. I don't have a witty way to end this blog. My stomach is kind of messed up (maybe you could tell from all the heaving and barfing) and I feel kind of sluggish so . . .

the end

Day 3: Blessed art thou among women

Photobucket

I collect articles of SL clothing with the Virgin Mary on them.

("Articles of SL clothing" sounds so stuffy -- I'll probably come back and edit that. Someone give me another phrase, please. If I use it in the rewrite, you get something funny from me. And it's not a cookie.)

Maybe I'm the only person out there in the SL blogosphere who's been working on a Virgin Mary fashion post for WEEKS. There's so much Virgin Mary fashion to be had out there. I'm being serious.

I kind of kissed that blog post goodbye today. It was growing to epic proportions -- and that's saying a lot for this blog -- and it just didn't have the flair I was looking for. If anything, the Virgin Mary deserves flair.

I guess what I'll do is sprinkle my Virgin Mary fashions throughout future posts. Just think of it as another signature element, I guess.

"Hey, there's that damn blogger who has that weird Virgin Mary obsession and annoys the hell out of us with her spellings of "hey" ('HAY!'), God ('gawd' - hey, I don't wanna type the Lord's name in vain, people!), rocking ('rawkin') and dude ('dood!') . . . and why is she saying 'rocking' and 'dude' anyway? And don't get us started on the bold all-caps and that fish tank."

OH YEAH! I hear it. It cuts like a knife. (Kidding, go ahead and mock, I don't care.)

The good news is, if anyone ever wanted to write a parody of this blog or if I participate in the next Great Blog Swap or whatever it's called, this blog will be OH SO EASY to mimic!

So see, I'm doing it all for you!

As to the Virgin Mary, I won't get too much into my deep affection for her. In my late 20s and early 30s, I tried to visit all the Marian apparition sites in the world. My favorite was Fatima in Portugal. I was on my way to the village of Medjugorje in Bosnia, but my trip was scheduled for 9/12/2001, so *sad face* I never made it, for obvious reasons. To my great delight, there's apparently a Lourdes in Second Life, although I haven't been there yet to see how it compares to the real thing.

In RL, I have a collection of Virgin Mary kitsch, which horrifies my mother. And actually, it started out as a truly cute little shrine until my friends got out of control and started picking up Virgin Marys at gas stations, velvet paintings and holographic pictures of her at carnivals, and giant plastic monstrosities from God-only-knows where. Then my collection morphed into this horrific gaudy corner of my home office and, yeah, I can see why my mother almost fainted when she first saw it.

("NO WONDER YOU'RE STILL SINGLE!")

So we can blame the Virgin Mary and, um, my garden gnomes for my spinsterhood, I guess. I still love them though.

Those Maria tanks in the photo above are from the so-spectacular So Many Styles for 100L. There's also an orange and a black version. And gosh, I really managed to look Satanic in that photo. Way to go, Emerald.

The Lala Bubble Dress I'm wearing is from Bliss Couture and as striking as it is, it's unfortunately part of my "Wear it for a Day and then Throw It Away" project. My inventory currently is at 87K. I'm going to keep a few cherished pieces and the things I've spent big lindens on, but sadly the rest has to go. I'm never going to wear some of these outfits twice. I just don't have enough days in my life.

But if I stop shopping for a while and stick to my "Wear it for a Day and then Throw It Away" project, I should have my inventory under control in about 84,000 days!

YAY!

On behalf of me and all my glow-in-the-dark dashboard Virgin Marys, have a truly blessed day.

Day 2: Bow down before the (perfect) Queen of Zindra!

Photobucket

Sheeeeeeeeeeesh, I'm kind of brain dead today.

I'm gonna have to fall back on one of the suggested Big Bad Blogger Challenge topics of the day for this post:

Describe what your perfect Second Life day would be like.

Why I'd love to! Thanks for asking!

On my perfect Second Life day:

1. No modding necessary. On anything!

(But as to that picture up there, those Lynda chandelier earrings from OPIUM Everyday are awesome. "THANK YOU, DSN dropbox [and, in this case, Alaska Metropolitan]!" Every night is like Christmas now because of the new Designer Showcase Network. If you kids haven't yet swung by a DSN kiosk to subscribe for free daily samples of everything from skins to fashion to furniture to gadgets, hop over to the one located HERE and start clicking categories. And if I'm not making sense, blame my cheap red wine and go read all about DSN HERE.)

2. Jack Linden would crown me Queen of Zindra and everyone would throw a huge parade.

3. Stiletto Moody would finally adopt the brand slogan I wrote for her: "It ain't ghetto if you're wearin' Stiletto!"

4. But seriously, Stiletto Moody would lock down her update group and send all of us loyalists a SHOCKINGLY FABULOUS group gift (as in shoes) from her upcoming new BARE© foot line. (Dood, she totally copyrighted the word bare!)

. . . Hey, that reminds me, if you look closely you'll see that I revealed some very sensitive and personal information about myself in that photo up there: I'M BROKE! So along those lines:

5. Linden Labs would give us a RAISE and up the weekly premium-account allowance from 300L to 500L. Actually, since we're fantasizing, make that 1,000L.

6. All of you would catch my BLOGGING IN BOLD ALL-CAPS FEVER!

Is this post starting to sound really shallow? IT IS! It's all about clothes, shopping, money and gimme gimme gimme and me me me me me me ME!

Shoot.

I should write something about a perfect friendship or a perfect romance or gridwide peace or uniting to make a gigantic impact on a really noble cause or . . .

7. Jewelry designer Random Calliope would QUITE RANDOMLY drop a BOX OF AWESOME on me that includes his forever-elusive (to me) Water and Sky set and that (tries not to curse and throw the butterfly net) "darn" ring in Twilight.

DOH! *hums Madonna's "Material Girl"*

If you're new, you might not understand No. 7. Go to Wanderstill (you'll land in a house when you get there -- don't worry, you're allowed to be in there), turn on your music stream, breathe deeply, wander out into the fields, check out the beautiful scenery, mellow out, then click any butterflies you see and they might just drop some gorgeous jewelry on you. Join the Ode Butterfly Hunters group for alerts on organized hunts. And if you need info beyond those two sentences, IM me inworld. I love to convert people to Seekers of Ode. Or just tell me your favorite color and hit me up for a set -- now I collect them JUST to spread the love and give them away.

8. I would suddenly have the magic power to pick one thing in my inventory and manifest it in real life, in which case I would pick my SL cat Dewey, bought and named in memory of my real cat Dewey, who passed away a little over a year ago at the ripe old age of 15. I still miss her terribly. She liked to lay down next to me and lick my forehead. She was the best cat ever.

And GAH, now I'm crying. No tears! I have to get my Tennessee driver's license picture taken tomorrow. I don't want those puffy cry-eyes!

That's why I stick to the shallow stuff. Sorry.

9. Speaking of my premium account, on my perfect day, Linden Labs would WAKE UP AND SMELL MY VISA CARD and get the bright idea to give me more for my money . . . like 10 more group slots.

Actually, five more is all I need, Linden Labs! Just five! Then I could rejoin the Inksters group and participate in intellectual and oft-hilarious group chats about writing and books, instead of using that group slot for, um (scans list of groups) apparently a fashion-oriented group that gives rawkin' group gifts. *runs from the haters*

Because of my greed, I have run out of group slots. I don't even have a sacrificial slot anymore. And gosh, that sentence sounded filthy enough to make me laugh.

Wow, we just went from crying to laughing in the space of a mere number. I swear I'm not crazy. I'm just ovulating.

10. Frankly, my perfect day in Second Life would be a day where I could just BE in Second Life without someone in my real-life house constantly asking, "What're you doing?" "Are you on that computer?" "What are you doing on that computer?" "You're not playing that GAME are you?" "Let me see your screen." "It's a beautiful day. Turn that thing off and go out and get some FRESH AIR."

Sheeeeeeeesh! The way I have to sneak around now, you'd think I was addicted to online porn or something.

And now unfortunately whenever someone Googles "addicted to online porn," this post is going to pop up and confuse the hell out of them.

Perfect!

*yells "PORN!" one last time and runs off into a perfect sunset with the little pixelated Dewey-cat*

Day 1: Wrap me in leaves and cover me with fabulous junk

Hey, it's the first day of Ali Chenaux's Big Bad Blogger Challenge 2009. Your mission, should you choose to accept it: To update your blog every day starting now through June 19. (God help my readers.) If you're a blogger and you haven't signed up, click that link up there, drop a comment with your URL on that post, and apologize for being fashionably late. If you're stumped for a topic, check the Ch'Know blog each day for a writing assignment.

Fortunately or unfortunately for all of us, I have no problem babbling about basically nothing for paragraphs on end. It's getting me to shut up that's really the challenge. When are we doing the Bad Blogger (Please Be Quiet) Challenge of 2009?

Um, so anyhoo . . . Here's a (reelly skeeny) picture of me doing the SL Walk of Shame:

Photobucket

Unfortunately I'm not talking about the "sneaking home early in the morning after a night of steamy naked passion" walk of shame.

I'm talking about that walk my AV does when I'm about to crash. I'm not sure if it ever happens to you. But in my case, she keeps walking and walking and walking and walking, through walls, across the sim, across the ocean, out into the galaxy. Sometimes the walk lasts up to three or four minutes, and all I can do is watch helplessly, waiting for that final "You have been logged out of Second Life" verdict.

But today it looked a little bit like a catwalk, so I snapped a quick pic before I bit the dust.

So, let's talk about the dress.

One of my favorite SL stores is Miel. It's small, but so damn awesome. I'm talking beautiful hand-drawn work that'll have strangers stopping you in the streets with a "HAY, where'd you get that?" (And yep, I'm happy to share. No anti-inspection devices for me.)

So when I got a notice about Miel's new Oh Leafy dress, I dropped what I was doing and ran like Flo Jo over to the store.

Let's examine it in front of the ultimate fashion backdrop, my fish tank, shall we?

Photobucket

This is the dress in Lemongrass (325L). That Oh Leafy pin on the shoulder is a separate purchase (125L) and there's also a matching headband (125L), which I had to regretfully pass up because I'm sooooo broke.

The dress also comes in Eclipse (grey/black) and Opium (a rose color).

Check out the back, please:

Photobucket

Wooo! Lovely prim layers there! And that shoulder leaf strap is optional.

If the dress isn't your thing, I still urge -- YES, URGE! -- you to check out the cute shorts, pants, fabulous tops, highly detailed stockings and even shoes, all crafted with exquisite artistry -- and believe me, I don't throw the word "exquisite" around lightly.

In other news!

After much agonizing, I finally went to junkDrawer and bought that purple Victorian house I've been lusting after. Sadly, because this is the way my luck goes these days, I bought it for 2,000L RIGHT BEFORE it (along with almost everything else there) went on sale for 25 percent off. When I checked this afternoon, it was still on sale, apparently until midnight SLT tonight. So if you have a hankering for a great home -- and it comes in different colors -- hustle over there NOW and snag it for the new price of 1500L. *weeps*

Here's an aerial view. It takes up almost my whole parcel of land - ha ha!

Photobucket

Yep, I still have some landscaping to do.

And yeah, that bridge at the bottom connects my parcel to my now-former friend Lizzie's parcel. She recently sliced up her friends list like a slab of deli meat and I guess I ended up in the pile of shavings. Apparently she canceled her SL accounts today. I guess time will tell whether that's really true. Maybe she really is taking some much-needed time away from SL, or maybe I was always supposed to be just another chapter in her Second Life story. In any case, if I see a quirky blogger with fabulous photos on any of the feeds in the near future, I'm gonna yell, "YOU'RE BUSTED, ALT!"

I'm feeling shocked and jangled and upset and confused and adrift and more than a little messed up over the abrupt departure of my friend. However, all the yucky feelings aside, I still miss her, so I drew her picture up there.

I can draw your portrait too for a small fee.

Having two homes (well, three if you count that silly skybox, which is no longer mine) has been a blast, but I guess I'll probably have to pack up my purple house soon and permanently retreat to my beloved beach rental unless I can quickly find a sugar daddy (or a job - what a concept!) to help cover my 7800L monthly rent. Living the fantasy of my own land and a 600-prim allowance has been a ton of fun though.

So speaking of my house, the last time I was at junkDrawer I was delighted to discover that owner Maggie Camus recently has tried her hand at making a small collection of clothes . . . and WOW, she's really good!

Here I am inside my empty purple house, modeling the Not Sandra Dee saddle shoes (168L, but this might be the sale price):

Photobucket

(Pose: Look at My Shoes 6 from Le Boudoir Mode d'Ambre)

LOVE!

My house has a hidden TP to a secret room upstairs, perfect for those intimate moments. Since Jon wasn't around, I figured I'd put the room to good use by showing off these CUTE junkDrawer Root Beer Float Shorts (including prim buttons - not shown - and prim cuffs) and Arrgh Shirt in Pink. My bad for not getting the prices on them, but I promise they won't break your budget:

Photobucket

Wow, my hands look really . . . strange in that pic. And that's a built-in bed behind me.

I gave Jon a key and he's already been hard at work decorating.

Photobucket

That's ducky, Jon.

OK. I think I've run my mouth enough for one day and you probably agree.

But before I go, I have some really fantastic news to share!

Those of you who knew me waaaaaaaay back when I was a noob were so kind when you politely looked the other way whenever I ran around in this cupcake costume:

Photobucket

(Ugh, sorry -- bad lighting. And shoes.)

At the time, I never kept track of where I got things. People actually wanted this outfit and sadly I couldn't help them.

But today I got a notice from Devilish Cupcake that said a) they're having a 50 percent off sale right now, and b) there's a special freebie currently in store . . . and WOO HOO! It's this cupcake costume!!!! Talk about a blast from the past!

The cupcake comes off, BTW, and leaves you with a sprinkly, sugary bikini.

So what're you waiting for????

GO GET YOUR FROSTING ON!!!!

Reality check

Late Friday night, a storm ripped through western Tennessee with 80 mph winds and the destructiveness equivalent to that of a tornado. I've never seen my city brought to its knees so quickly.

I drove home from my high school reunion happy hour through streets filled with dead streetlights until I finally arrived in my pitch-black neighborhood. The house was muggy and without electricity, the pets were all freaked out, the candles and flashlights seemed sort of useless, and it was a reallllllly long night.

When I woke up Saturday, we still had no power, telephone or hot water. In fact, 131,000 households were without electricity that morning and as I type this blog post at 3 a.m. on Sunday, 75,000 of those houses are still waiting for it. Ours finally came on around 4 p.m. yesterday.

I spent about five hours Saturday morning helping my family clean debris out of our yard and trying to put our garden back together. It felt good to get my hands in the dirt, actually. I had forgotten how much I liked it.

Our yard was completely trashed, but that was nothing compared to the mess my neighbors across the street faced. There was a gaping hole in their roof and one whole half of the front of their house was gone. A HUGE old (oak?) tree had fallen on it and completely wiped it out.

As that husband and wife stood stunned on the sidewalk and stared at their house, we all left our respective messes and went over to find out how we could help. I watched the woman struggle bravely not to cry and then finally lose that battle and sob. It was horrible. People spent the rest of the day helping them temporarily patch the hole in their roof, clean A TREE out of their living room and cover the front of their house with plastic.

I skipped my fancy high school reunion dinner Saturday night. (I'll hit the Sunday brunch -- two out of three isn't bad.) My back was throbbing from carrying giant branches and I was covered with dirt and soaked with sweat. When the electricity finally came on, I took a shower and climbed in my COOL bed with a COLD beer and my laptop.

JOY.

I logged into Second Life to discover that my dearest friend there is struggling with inner turmoil, so much so that she deleted her whole friends list, me included. I can understand leaving SL for a while or even for good if it's causing you grief. I don't understand the part about cutting out all the people who love you.

I will be really, really, really sad about this situation later, but at the moment I'm just numb.

Yesterday I watched a husband and wife standing in shock on the sidewalk, holding each other and crying over their demolished home. I threw away a nest full of dead baby birds. I worked alongside my neighbors as we tried to dig our damn neighborhood out from under piles of rubble.

It was a huge reality check, and although it wasn't pretty, there was beauty in watching everyone on my street join forces to help each other out, to gather tools and supplies, to clear the street and sidewalks, to get drinks for the men sawing branches. These violent and unexpected acts of nature, sometimes they bring out the best in people. Next week I'm sure these same neighbors will be back to harping at me because my dog pooped on their lawns, but for today we all put our differences aside and got each other through this horrific mess.

Because that's what good friends and neighbors do -- when your life seems like it's in shambles, they'll get right down in the muck with you and help you dig your way out of it.

To my friend, whom I've come to love more than anyone else in Second Life -- I'm sorry you feel like you'll never be able to "redeem [yourself] in the eyes of the second life fashion community." But my response to that is just . . . confusion. Who gives a damn about the eyes of the Second Life fashion community? Bravo, they make beautiful clothes. Some of them are interesting people. But you have real friends who love you. Unfortunately I'm just a nobody in "Second Life society." So maybe my friendship never held any weight after all.

And I'm sorry that men have broken your heart in Second Life. But, my friend, before I met you, I had never met a woman who could captivate so many men so quickly -- in any life. You are charming, hilarious, intelligent and fun. Trust me, you have sooooo many more men in your future.

So I guess I just lost my best friend in Second Life. And it already seems hollow and sad there.

But today I also watched a woman's face crumple into tears as a group of us helped her get a TREE out of her HOUSE and . . . I don't know.

It's one of those days when you close the laptop and say, "I don't feel like playing today."

I understand how real Second Life is for some people. I understand that when the heart is hurt, it doesn't distinguish between reality and a computer screen. I'm not trying to downplay the significance of SL to many people or the impact of the pain that we can feel there. Hell, I've got my own battle wounds.

But I don't know. I feel different this weekend, and I'm at a loss for words. I feel like I need a good long cry and for once it's for someone or something outside of myself. I feel sort of shocked and detached and like I've just gotten a good hard slap in the face from a giant hand traveling 80 mph.

I guess I'm just trying to say this:

If Second Life has broken your heart and you feel like everything is a huge mess there at the moment, come on over to my First Life later and help us rebuild my neighbors' house. I've got extra hammers. Thankfully the beer will be on ice. And trust me when I tell you that the metaverse or anyone in it probably won't even cross your mind once.

Flashbacks (insert witty headline here)

Photobucket

I grew up in the Age of Atari.

When I was a kid, it was all about where we were all playing Space Invaders after school, or whose mom was taking us to the arcade on the weekend, or how high our Ms. Pac Man scores were and whether or not we had those coveted Pac Man shoelaces.

(Reads that sentence again. Yeah, my English teacher definitely wouldn't like it.)

I miss those innocent days. And living in my childhood home is bringing back a lot of those memories. (Yesterday I found a dusty box with my UNICORN COLLECTION in it! Now if I could just find my Lisa Frank sticker album!)

Maybe that's why I'm suddenly gravitating to all these really bright goofy outfits in Second Life. There's nothing subtle about them. They're fun. They're a little obnoxious. They pop with the colors we loved in the '80s.

So that's my excuse for camping for 60 minutes today to get that Skelly Girl outfit up there at Volt. And actually I wasn't completely present in that photo. I have a list of RL household cleaning chores that's as long as my arm right now. Until I find a job, just call me Cinderella (still waiting for my prince).

So if you wanna know the truth, RL me was scrubbing the toilet at that particular moment in time.

Fortunately for you, I didn't take a picture of that.

But speaking of the '80s and Atari, I'm thinking about my past and feeling slightly better about my Second Life affection. I am not an animal! I was programmed to love pixels! Because after Atari came the fascinating Commodore 64 and my favorite game Zork! [OK, now skip a few years.] I think my next passionate computer love affair was with The Sims. And the first time I logged on to Second Life, I remember thinking, "OOH! It's like The Sims but better!"

So yeah, big-time flashbacks these week, mainly because my 20-year high school reunion weekend starts tomorrow.

*wails, "I DON'T WANNA GO!!!!!"*

I took a poll on Facebook and I'm pretty sure I'm the only one going who isn't married with a bunch of beautiful kids. Two years ago I could have gone in some Loubies and a slinky dress and at least bragged about my big impressive job, I guess. But now all I have to talk about is . . . my new pet turtle? I don't know.

Maybe I'll wear the Loubies and a slinky dress anyway and just lie my ass off.

My only consolation is that I think I've aged better than a lot of the mean chicks I hated in high school. I have seen their pictures. Fake tans and plastic surgery haven't helped them.

Meanwhile, I love my big white (and still original!) teeth. They're FABULOUS! That's what being engaged to a dentist will get you (even if the engagement goes to hell). You don't believe me, check my 1st Life tab in my profile. (Yeah, I posted my pic because ALL MY FRIENDS WERE DOIN' IT!)

Bow down before my glowing smile! (And thank you, Crest Whitestrips, seriously.)

(OK sorry. It's not arrogance. I'm slowly being brainwashed by this positive-thinking game I've been playing.)

And I'm still slender. Don't take that the wrong way -- I only list it as a positive because a few of my friends have e-mailed me and said, "Please don't be freaked when you see all the weight I've gained." Aww! QUIT IT!

I would trade my Size 0 any day for a loving husband and beautiful children (not to mention a grown-up chest).

They don't know how good they have it.

So yeah, as for me, I'm still spindly. Spindly spinster. I do plan on stuffing the hell out of my bra though.

That's all I've got going on for the high school reunion: teeth, turtle and still Spanx-less thighs. Beyond that, I'm pretty pathetic.

Speaking of weight -- YES, I'm big on the "speaking of" segue; you'll live -- the other day I overheard a prominent and much-loved SL designer bashing RL overweight people, or "fatties" as she called them, and I was somewhat shocked and saddened. My first instinct was to boycott her store and post the chat in this blog. But then I wondered if doing that would be just as juvenile as someone bashing, banning, muting or defriending me because of opinions I express in this blog.

(I used to be an op-ed editor at a newspaper. When it comes to debating, I'm used to friendly banter or, at most, heated letters to the editor. Notes that call me the C-word and say "YOU SUCK" are beyond my point of reference. But thanks for reading!)

Plus, I really love that designer's work. :\

Believe it or not, I agonized over whether or not I should boycott her store for a while before I had to remind myself NOT TO TAKE SECOND LIFE SO GAWD-DAMN SERIOUSLY.

I'll admit that my opinion of that designer has plummeted several notches. And we could get in a big discussion here about whether a comment like hers falls in the "opinion" or "discrimination" category. But you know what, at the end of the day, I'm sticking with my attitude that it's all pixels. Breaking a sweat over whether to boycott fake clothes that will vanish the day I finally kill my Second Life account . . . well, it doesn't deserve the space in my brain, frankly. And maybe my attitude differs vastly from yours and maybe it'll tick you off. My apologies, but YAY for freedom of speech! (At the moment, Linden Labs isn't charging for blog rights!)

My point: If Second Life is triggering emotions beyond joy and delight, it's time to step away from your keyboard. It's here for fun and fantasy, not stress and tears. If you want to cry, stress out and even puke over something, do what I did and curl up in a little ball and sob over your upcoming high school reunion. But for the love of God, don't cry over Second Life. There are too many real things to worry about.

So on that note, I'll hypocritically sign off with this picture of me STRESSING over Prize Three (3 of 3) in the Look What the Cat Brought hunt. The clue on the oh-so-fabulous Hunt Locations blog was "Where the dead live." So here I am in the cemetery. And nothing.

Photobucket

I finally gave up and moved on to Prize Four, where I proceeded to strain my brain over "2 of 2." Clue: "Climb higher! You can't miss it!"

Um, I did climb higher. And I totally missed it. :(

Does anyone have a CHEAT SHEET for this hunt?

*runs like hell from all the cheat sheet haters*
